Seminars & Workshops Description

Working Effectively with Risk – full day workshop

(ONLINE OPTION AVAILABLE BELOW IF SOLD OUT)

Research over the past three decades has greatly advanced our understanding of risk in mental health, particularly with respect to concerns about suicide, self-harm and violence. We will summarise the evidence base and provide practical guidance as to how to use this knowledge in everyday practice to support meaningful, shared safety planning. However, this is only part of the task. All risk-related work is inherently value-laden. We will additionally provide mental health workers with ways to enhance their awareness of competing and diverse values and outline methods for collaborative practice.

Stay S.A.F.E.R. Method for Working with Angry Clients – 3 hours

Whether anger is a result of psychosis, intoxication, frustration, invalidation, neglect or other drivers, there are easy to apply strategies informed by robust learnings, that are effective when working with angry clients. In this workshop, we will explore research findings related to anger, the escalation cycle and introduce the highly effective, Stay S.A.F.E.R. method.

BPD & Complex Trauma – Carers Forum – 3 hours

Supporting our friends and family members who experience BPD and Complex Trauma can be very challenging. Added to this, accessing timely support and care, can often result in disappointment and despair. When self harm, suicidality, emotional distress and challenging behaviours are present, it can be a very isolating, anxiety provoking and frustrating experience for all. This 3 hour forum will provide key information in understanding the emotional, behavioural and relational challenges that occur with BPD and Complex Trauma and provide time for carers to discuss challenges they face and explore helpful strategies.
