Recovering Function, Building Hope – WORKSHOP & WEBINAR PROGRAM

Commences July 27th

Description

BPD and Complex trauma impact the personal lives and professional relationships of a significant number of people in the community. The impacts of trauma and negative attachment experiences can leave a person struggling to know how to engage effectively in treatment and support, whom to trust, what is actually considered ‘safe’, and may increase fears of further trauma and relationship rejection or abandonment. Together, these experiences can contribute to feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, increased anxiety, decreased coping and an exacerbation in self-harm and suicide thinking.

Workshop Content

Our Curious Minds (complex mental health training and consultancy) have partnered with Neami National (recovery-oriented community mental health organisation) to deliver a series of workshops  designed to help both clinical and non-clinical services gain a better understanding of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Complex Trauma.

The workshop is informed by contemporary evidence and our extensive experience building effective practice knowledge. It is divided into three parts with an introduction and conclusion by mental health consumers to provide participants with critical insights into the lived experience of trauma and one’s relationships with service providers.

  1. Part 1 is a  2 hour pre-recorded online workshop focusing on presenting features and influencing factors for BPD and Complex Trauma, including their overlaps, their differences and their unique requirements for supporting recovery-orientated outcomes.

  2. Part 2 is a 3 hour live webinar broken into two sessions with a short break in between.

    1. The first session addresses the impacts of trauma and the impacts on staff working with people impacted by trauma and attachment difficulties. This session will cover strategies to build safe, boundaried and productive relationships to support person-centred outcomes.
    2. The second session focuses on how to maintain recovery-focused interventions and trauma-informed care and practice in challenging and risky situations.
  3. Part 3 is a 2 hour pre-recorded online workshop focusing on the function of self-harm, strategies for working with issues of self-harm, violence and suicide, and helpful approaches to support a crisis response. We will finish by addressing transference challenges and referral pathways.
